Heavenlight Paul

Heavenlight Paulo is a Tanzanian biostatistician and epidemiologist with over seven years of experience in public health research, specializing in nutrition, maternal and child health, infectious disease modeling, and advanced statistical analysis. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Biostatistics at Boston University and serves as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania.

Heavenlight’s research interests include causal inference, longitudinal and survival data analysis, Bayesian methods, linear and machine learning models, and the application of these techniques to pressing global health issues. As an Assistant Researcher at Boston University, he is currently involved in a project focused on evaluating the optimal timing of the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine using G-computation and inverse probability of censoring weighting.

He has made significant contributions to numerous high-impact projects, including randomized trials on calcium supplementation in pregnancy, the Dar es Salaam Urban Cohort Study (DUCS), and multi-country school health and nutrition assessments supported by UNICEF. He also served as Lead Analyst for the Mbeya Micronutrient Survey 2021–22 with the Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC), where he led efforts in survey design, data quality assurance, analysis, and dissemination.

Heavenlight has consulted for major institutions including UNICEF, TFNC, and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health on projects involving situational analyses on overweight and obesity, post-event coverage surveys, and health data audits. He has facilitated regional workshops and trainings on statistical methods, R programming, and health data science, collaborating with partners from Harvard University and Boston University.

He is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as PLOS ONE, BMC Public Health, Maternal & Child Nutrition, and World Nutrition, and his work frequently bridges research and policy across academic and governmental settings.

Heavenlight is an active member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER), and the International Biometric Society. He is proficient in statistical software including R, Stata, SAS, and Excel, and is passionate about capacity building in biostatistics and public health research across Africa.
